Mass Transit Task Force recommends bus rapid transit system for new Tappan Zee Bridge

The group hopes the plan will increase bus ridership by 28 percent.

WHITE PLAINS - The Mass Transit Task Force for the new Tappan Zee Bridge made its recommendations for the new span Tuesday. 

The task force is calling for a new bus rapid transit system for commuters and a new transportation hub in downtown White Plains. The group hopes the plan will increase bus ridership by 28 percent.

The task force says it designed its plan around where Rockland and Westchester residents work, shop and play.

Brian Conybeare, special advisor to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, says the new bus routes would stretch from Suffern to Tarrytown, Yonkers, Valhalla and White Plains.

The final recommendations will be sent to the governor, the Thruway Authority and the state Department of Transportation by the end of February.
