QUEENS - The medical examiner has confirmed that human remains found in Queens last week are missing autistic teenager Avonte Oquendo.
An arm, lower torso and legs were found along an East River shoreline last Thursday, and part of a skull and teeth were recovered later as authorities scoured the water. The family's lawyer said that clothing found on the remains matched what the 14-year-old was last seen wearing, but that they were remaining hopeful that it wasn't him.
Oquendo disappeared after running out of his Long Island City school this past October, leading to a nearly four-month citywide search.
Authorities made the identification through DNA provided by his family.
A cause of death has not yet been determined.
