MOONACHIE - Many mobile homeowners who applied for state aid after Sandy struck last October are still waiting for their money.

In Moonachie, residents say the process has been extremely slow and burdensome. They add that they've had trouble proving their residency because their title papers were lost in the storm.

Residents say there are also a large number of mobile homeowners who never applied for aid, possibly because they were living in Moonachie without the right permits.

Trailer park owners are only eligible for money to replace their homes, not repair them. The state will not replace a mobile home in the same location if it is required to be raised more than 4 feet.
