HASTINGS - Many drivers are on the road this holiday weekend and police are warning them to keep their cellphone put away while they're behind the wheel.

Stephen Shyrock, an insurance agent and volunteer firefighter in Hastings, says tickets for driving while texting can start at $150.

They also affect your license, as it costs five points. After 11 points, your license gets suspended.

Shyrock says multiple offenses will label someone a high-risk driver and will make their insurance go up.
