DARIEN - Darien police are investigating after a 7-year-old girl found a rusty nail inside a chocolate chip cookie.

Investigators say the cookie was purchased from the Panera Bread on the Post Road last week.

They say it did not appear to have been placed in the cookie intentionally. A representative for Panera told News 12 Connecticut that the cookie dough is supplied by a third-party vender that has procedures in place to detect metal. Both parties are looking into the issue.

Police say the girl wasn't hurt after she bit into the cookie.
