JERSEY CITY - New Jersey residents who were in Washington 50 years ago for one of the most important speeches in American history are remembering today how the experience changed their lives.

Virginia Miller was there on the National Mall to hear the speech by Martin Luther King Jr. after traveling by bus from Jersey City with the NAACP.

"On the ride down there, we were very excited, we sang all the way going to Washington," Miller says. "And coming back everyone had tears in their eyes and they sang and shouted because it was a speech that no one had ever heard before."

King's speech included the famous quote, "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: we hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal."
