The International Society for Technology in Education on Sunday recognized New Rochelle city schools' technology department for its work in online learning.

City schools technology director Christine Coleman, along with several school technology facilitators, accepted the third-place SIGOL Online Learning Award at the San Diego Convention Center on Sunday. The award recognizes innovative educators providing cyberlearning opportunities to students.

First and second place in the same category were awarded to Deakins University in Australia and the University of Colorado at Boulder, respectively.

With the online "Learning on the Go" program, the New Rochelle district targets 1,300 English-language learners, economically disadvantaged students, lower-performing students and students with disabilities in grades 5-9.

"I am humbled by this recognition," Coleman said. "Providing these students with an opportunity to engage with technology is crucial to their development and overall learning."
