New Rochelle woman ran timeshare scam in Florida, cops say

A New Rochelle woman is behind bars in Florida Tuesday morning after police say she ran a timeshare scam defrauding three dozen people out of thousands of dollars.

Denise Beard, 48, allegedly pocketed more than $60,000 in an intricate telemarketing plot, records show. Investigators say she would call and tell victims she found a buyer for their timeshare and needed money for closing costs.

Beard promised to send them a check once the property was sold, but that never happened, investigators said.

Individual victims lost anywhere from $400 to $3,000 in the scam, Orlando, Fla.-based television station WFTV reported, citing court documents.

Beard was busted after one of her alleged accomplices was arrested by cops in December and turned her in, authorities said. Investigators believe there are 36 victims from across the country.

Beard faces 41 felony counts in Orange County Court in Orlando, court records show.
