1st C.D.: Super PAC ad wars intensify

Independent groups have already poured $3.5 million into the heated 1st Congressional District race between Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) and Republican businessman Randy Altschuler, of St. James.

And now, on Thursday, two of the more active of those groups -- Super PACS on each side of the aisle -- announced new attack ads.

The first is from the Democratic House Majority PAC, and attacks Altschuler for his two companies, business support firm OfficeTiger, which he sold in 2006, and CloudBlue Technologies, which he later co-founded and still serves as executive chairman.

The second is from Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS, and attacks Bishop for a recent incident involving his campaign fundraisers (which includes his daughter) and a constituent he was aiding with a permit request.

Both candidates have decried the Super PAC ads attacking them on these issues (there have already been several others produced), and deny that they properly explain the issues in question.

Bishop and Altschuler are scheduled to debate again tonight in Westhampton Beach.
