4th S.D.: GOP challenges Montano petitions

Republicans have filed general objections to Suffolk Legis. Ricardo Montano’s nominating petitions for the 4th District state senate.

The objection was signed by Andrew Kremer of Lindenhurst and Arthur Laufer of Islip, both Republican board of elections workers in Yaphank.

The objectors will have to file specific objections by Thursday describing in detail that Montano does not have 1,000 valid signatures, the minimum required for the race. If specific objections are lodged, the two county elections commissioners — one Republican and one Democrat — would rule on the validity of the petitions. The commissioner would have to agree unanimously for the petitions to be thrown out.

Montano said he is not surprised by the challenge but said that he is confident that his petitions will stand up to scrutiny.
