Deal near on prescription drugs

A deal to overhaul the way prescription narcotics are tracked in New York could be announced as soon as Tuesday afternoon, according to sources close to the negotiations.

The deal would include a system for "real time" tracking of the issuance and dispensation of opioids such as hydrocodone and oxycodone.

Activists from Long Island, Buffalo and elsewhere arrived at the Capitol this week to press lawmakers to stop stalling and agree to overhaul the current system.
