Gun violence this year's Sharpton-MLK forum theme

Every Martin Luther King Day, the Rev. Al Sharpton hosts a public policy forum that draws televised coverage and visits from numerous elected officials to Harlem. Today, as announced by Sharpton's National Action Network, the speeches involve how government and communities respond "in the wake of so many murders in New York City related to gun violence." Among those billed for the events this afternoon: Mayor Michael Bloomberg; US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand; state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman; Comptroller Tom DiNapoli ; NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn; Reps. Ed Towns, Jerrold Nadler and Charles Rangel; ex-NYC Comptroller William Thompson; Coluncilmembers Tish James, Melissa Mark-Viverito, Jumaane Williams and Ydanis Rodriguez; CB 1 Chair Julie Menin; BP Scott Stronger, Assemb. Guillermo Linares; SEIU 32BJ President Mike Fishman.
