Senate debate: Some 'yes-no' questions
Moderators Liz Benjamin and Errol Louis on the NY1-YNN debate among Senate GOP candidates in the June 26 primary to take on incumbent Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand insisted on "yes-no" answers to certain questions. As much as can be divined from short answers, here is how a few of them came out:
Ever voted for a Democrat? Only Wendy Long said 'No.”
Michael Bloomberg a better mayor than Rudy Giuliani? Long said no, George Maragos said "maybe ...yes." and Turner said “Rudy Giuliani endorsed me. Get serious. Of course he's the best mayor!”
If you discovered your employee was illegal would you report that person? Maragos said it would be his legal obligation, “so yes.” Long said “yes.” Bob Turner pondered for a number of seconds before saying “Probably ... not.”
Would you refuse on principle to attend a same-sex wedding? Turner and Maragos said no, while Long said yes. Earlier, Long drew flak from Maragos for not vowing to try to repeal same-sex marriage in New York; she said her position is that it is a state-by-state issue although she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman.
