Suffolk: Malafi moves from Levy to Leviton

Former County Attorney Christine Malafi has landed a new job as senior general counsel to Leviton Manufacturing Inc. of Melville.

Malafi, who was county attorney for eight years under County Executive Steve Levy, started her new post Wednesday. She disclosed her new job while attending the swearing-in of her husband Legis. Louis D’Amaro (D-North Babylon) Tuesday.

The high-tech Leviton relocated from Little Neck to Melville in 2009 bringing 2,000 jobs to Suffolk with help from the Levy administration and the county industrial development agency, which provided $1.2 million in sale tax exemption for construction materials and equipment for the company’s new world headquarters. However, IDA officials say that Malafi was not involved with those efforts because the IDA has its own counsel.
