Suffolk sells off $4.2M in real estate

Suffolk County sold $4.2 million in real estate at an auction held in the Dennison Building last week of tracts seized for unpaid taxes.

Officials say 113 parcels were sold, with only four left unsold on the auction block. The sale will put the tracts back on the tax rolls and will more than recover the $2.2 million the county paid for upkeep and property tax payments to towns and school and other tax districts.

The auction was the biggest the county has had in the past three years. In October, 2010, the county sold $2 million worth of land; in May 2011, $689,000 worth, and in October, 2011, $2.9 million.
