Britney and Mel: The odd couple

Between guest spots on "How I Met Your Mother" and court appearances, Britney Spears has been pretty busy these days. So the pop star has taken a vacation—with Mel Gibson.

The two hopped a plane bound for Costa Rica Thursday morning, according to etonline.com. Joining the duo for the exotic mini-vacation was Spears' dad, Jamie, and Gibson's wife. The Spears will be at Gibson's guests at his home in the Central American tourist hot spot. People.com reports they'll be back next week.

In case you were wondering how the troubled stars know each other, Spears and Gibson used to live in the same Malibu community and were spotted having dinner together in March.
