Reference Writing Tips
So, you may have heard from some bright young person asking you to serve as a reference. But what if you've never done that? You can get some ideas from articles on "how to write a reference" through the career Web site www.Riley Guide. com. (In the A to Z section, click on "R" for references.) Among suggestions - ask the person to send you his or her resume, plus a list of accomplishments and association memberships. You may be surprised at the person's breadth beyond your relationship. Also, if you think all you can muster are sketchy, passionless comments, it's better to decline the request.
