Bio

A native of Queens, New York, Jan Stuart came to Newsday in 1990 from the lamented New York weekly 7 Days, where he served for its two-year life as first-string theater critic.

Stuart began his career as an arts journalist in the features department at Vogue Magazine, under the stewardship of legendary editor and cultural commentator Leo Lerman.

Stuart's essays, profiles, columns and critiques have also appeared in GQ, Elle, Travel and Leisure, The Village Voice, Mirabella, The New York Times, The Washington Post and Toronto's Globe and Mail.

He is a member of the New York Film Critic's Circle, and the author of the Simon and Schuster book "The Nashville Chronicles: The Making of Robert Altman's Masterpiece."
