Police have arrested two men for allegedly driving while intoxicated in Westbury early Saturday morning.
Elan McDonald, 25, of 1366 Balcom Ave. in the Bronx, was driving a 1993 Toyota Camry north on Merrick Avenue and crossed into the southbound lanes after 12:30 a.m., police said. He struck, head on, a 2006 Jeep Cherokee driven by Vincent Berillo, 42, of 2 Schoolhouse Rd. in Levittown, police said.
A 22-year-old female passenger in the Toyota was sent to a hospital and was in critical condition Saturday, police said. A 38-year-old man in the Jeep was sent to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, police said.
Police said Berillo had glassy, bloodshot eyes and was slurring his speech.
McDonald, police said, was sent to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow where he showed signs of intoxication. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said.
McDonald faces charges of second-degree assault and vehicular assault, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. He will be arraigned as soon as practical, police said.
Berillo is charged with driving while intoxicated and holding more than one license. He was to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
