Cops: Man dies in 2-car crash in N. Patchogue
A Middle Island man died and three others were injured in a two-car crash in North Patchogue last night, police said.
Suffolk County police said John Bertuzzi was driving a 2008 Kia north on North Ocean Avenue, when he crossed over into the southbound lane, striking a 2010 Volkswagen being driven by Louise Cervelli at 5:29 p.m.
Police said Bertuzzi, 72, of Middle Island, was pronounced dead at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.
Cervelli, 32, of Coram, was in serious condition at Stony Brook University Medical Center last night. Her husband, Garrett, 35, and their 13-month-old son were both taken by ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. Garrett Cervelli was being treated for internal injuries and the child was treated for minor injuries and released, police said.
Police are investigating whether a medical condition may have contributed to the cause of the crash. The cars will be impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.

Suffolk County police said the crash happened just north of Shaber Roadcq at 5:29 p.m. An adult man in one of the cars was brought to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.
The female driver of the other car was brought to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition. An adult male and a child riding in her car were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. The man was in serious condition and the child had non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are investigating and no other information was available.
