Robinson Cano was the third-fastest homegrown Yankee of the post-expansion era to reach 1,000 hits for his career, behind Don Mattingly and Derek Jeter. A Yankees notebook item July 26 indicated Cano was the third-fastest homegrown Yankee of all time to reach the mark. Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, Earle Combs and Bob Meusel also reached 1,000 hits faster than Cano.

Huntington's Heckscher Museum of Art and the Cinema Arts Centre were not the first Long Island organizations to announce they were launching a biennial art exhibition. The Long Island Biennial, running through Sept. 26 at Heckscher, was preceded by a Patchogue Arts Council exhibition in October - something a statement by Heckscher curator Lisa Chalif in Friday's Explore LI section didn't take into account.
