A recent lunch at the new Plancha Tapas and Wine Bar in Garden City had me wishing I could have lingered over a glass of wine instead of rushing back to the office.
The space, which last hosted the Upper Crust Cafe, has undergone a huge transformation, with wood beams and brickwork and no shortage of rustic Euro charm. It’s under the same co-ownership as Salumi Tapas and Wine Bar in Massapequa,...Read more »

Whenever I drive along South Broadway in Hicksville, I check on Punjabi Kabab House, a favorite Indian restaurant but one that never seems to be very busy. Tuesday night my fears were realized: The space is empty, with a “for rent” sign in the window.
Punjabi Kabab House had friendly service and stellar tandoori meats, breads and vegetables. And I always got a kick out of the location — which...Read more »

Then came the menu, which bore this maxim attributed to Sam Walton, founder of Walmart and Sam’s...Read more »

The Panera Bread on Old Country Road (just west of Manetto Hill Road) in Plainview offers something no other Long Island branch provides: a drive-through window.
Which means that without leaving your car, you can get anything on the store’s cafe and bakery menu. Like a Mediterranean egg white sandwich in the morning. Or, for lunch or dinner, chicken noodle soup and a chipotle chicken panino....Read more »

Some will do it at Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton.

Before you make the phone call, note that the restaurant...Read more »
