More than 933,000 New Yorkers have enrolled for coverage on the state's health insurance exchange, the state Department of Health said Friday.

Since March 31 -- the initial deadline -- 68,000 more have enrolled for coverage on the New York State of Health. The state extended the deadline until April 15 for those who were unable to complete the application through no fault of their own.

Of the 933,232 who have enrolled, 508,016 have qualified for Medicaid; the remainder have bought private insurance.

The state said more than 70 percent were uninsured when they applied for insurance.
