Teitelbaum, a familiar media presence and expert on fibromyalgia, writes that "Sugar acts as an energy loan shark, taking away more energy than it gives."

THE SCOOP Teitelbaum says there are four types of sugar addiction (yours might fit in more than one category), whose symptoms include depression, stress, congestion (and other manifestations of yeast overgrowth, such as sinusitis) and exhaustion. And he offers four different plans for attacking the problem.

THE BOTTOM LINE Getting off sugar, of course, is key, and Teitelbaum emphasizes exercise, vitamins, whole foods - and sleep. Don't ignore your thyroid - sometimes even people with normal hormone tests can have a deficiency.
