Free well testing is being offered to Suffolk County homeowners who are outside the county's water authority and whose wells were affected by superstorm Sandy, the county health department said Monday in a release.
The health department will test for the presence of bacteria, fuels, chlorides or other contaminants, health officials said. The testing offer is open until Dec. 20, but may be extended for those who have been displaced and have not returned to their homes, according to the release. To arrange for testing, call 631-852-5810 or 631-852-5789.
As announced previously, the water authority will be testing private wells located within its service area, the release said. These residents should call 631-698-9500.
