The New York Film Festival announced its main slate of selections on Thursday, and it will feature works from screen heavyweights, including Noah Baumbach, David Chase and Brian De Palma.

Organizers for the festival at Lincoln Center, which opens Sept. 28 and runs through Oct. 14, announced the lineup of 32 films and said the movies will bring "audiences to places they might rather not go."

"The films making up the main slate of this year's NYFF have in common a general quality of fearlessness that unites otherwise very disparate works," said Richard Peña, selection committee chair and program director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
