When it comes to getting the Giants' offense back in a groove, Kevin Gilbride has two ideas: Keep it simple and speed it up.
The offensive coordinator hinted Thursday that a few no-huddle possessions could kick-start a unit whose lack of production in recent games he called "jarring."
"It's something you always talk about because it has been something good," Gilbride said of the Giants' effectiveness in two-minute drills.
He was quick to point out that the Giants had the ball in a hurry-up situation against the Steelers late in the fourth quarter with a chance to win the game and went three-and-out.
"It doesn't always work," Gilbride said, "but it has been something that we have been very good at and hopefully we're going to recover and get back to that."
The reason why the Giants normally excel in those situations, Gilbride said, is because they reduce the offense to a minimum of plays. "Usually what you do to help resolve [struggles] is go back to the things that are at your core," he said. " . . . We should eliminate any of those mistakes that were made doing some of the things that maybe you designed specifically to beat a particular opponent, which is why we've used the pass so proficiently in the two-minute."
Chase back for Sunday?
Chase Blackburn (hamstring) missed one game with his injury. He does not plan on missing two. The starting middle linebacker was back practicing Thursday and was limited, but it was enough to build optimism toward being on the field Sunday against the Bengals. "I felt good out there," he said. "Obviously I didn't go out there and wasn't running cold and just trying to run 100 miles per hour, but I felt pretty good, confident."
Tom Coughlin said it will be "deep in the week" before a decision is made on G Chris Snee (ankle). If he can't play, the Giants likely would move RT David Diehl to right guard and bring Sean Locklear back to right tackle . . . DT Chris Canty (groin) was limited Thursday, as were RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot), C David Baas (ankle/elbow), TE Bear Pascoe (ankle) and LB Keith Rivers (calf).
