East Side shopping guide
EAST VILLAGE
For her
The Hanger Bar & Boutique
217 E. 3rd St., 212-228-1030
Come in for a designer cocktail or two and leave with a wardrobe. That's the premise behind The Hanger, a bar that doubles as an eclectic women's vintage shop. With décor that resembles your grandmother's house (minus the plastic-covered couch), the Hanger also loves a good deal: happy hour from 2-9 p.m. daily and women's wear from $10 to $75.
Anna
150 E. 3rd St., 212-358-0195
Named after the owner's grandmother, Kathy Kemp's intimate boutique has had a loyal, underground following since it opened 12 years ago. Bestsellers are jersey and wrap dresses and finely tailored trench coats.
For him
Odin
328 E. 11th St., 212-475-0666
Odin is perfect for the guy who loves fashion. The boutique features designer labels, including Oliver Spencer, Cheap Monday and Rag & Bone, alongside styles from
local talent. To enhance shoppers' overall look, the shop also has a selection of accessories and grooming products.
For the home
Tiny Living
125 East 7th St., 212.228.2748
In a city where small apartments are the norm, Tiny Living provides stylish organizational solutions for cramped spaces. The modern store specializes in a variety of inexpensive and cleverly designed items for every corner. We love the over-the-tank toilet paper holder ($11.95) and Instant Kitchen coffee maker, toaster oven and non-stick griddle combo ($44.95).
For something special
Love Saves the Day
119 Second Avenue, 212-228-3802
After 40-plus years in business, Love Saves the Day is still holding down the East Village's rebellious, punky old guard. Assorted kitsch, including action figures, Pez dispensers and lunch boxes, can be found in every nook and cranny of this kooky shop. But the real deal is the weekend sidewalk sale, where tables are pilled high with vintage clothing and accessories priced from $2.
