FRENCH. One of the Meatpacking District's pioneers, Florent made its name with 24/7 service, catering to a crowd of club kids, transvestites, insomniacs, party-goers, and everyone else who stays up late. Families, too. In fact, the place is so kid-friendly there's a menu for the grammar-school set.

The 24-hour days are over except on weekends, but the place is still going strong. In a diner-like setting, the kitchen sends out bistro standards like roast chicken and steak frites. There's also an array of sandwiches, salads, and appetizers, and at breakfast time, omelettes, egg dishes, pancakes, and French toast.
