ON THE TRAIL
Law enforcement officials in Green County, Ohio, populated
with Democrat-leaning college students, are seeking information on those who registered and voted during the state's weeklong same-day voting window. The window was the subject of an unsuccessful legal challenge by the Ohio Republican Party. County Sheriff Gene Fischer, a Republican, requested registration cards and address change forms yesterday for all 302 people who took advantage of the window. The county prosecutor said the records request was not politically motivated.
The National Rifle Association is endorsing John McCain. NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre announced the endorsement yesterday. LaPierre and the chairman of the NRA's political action committee were making stops in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Colorado and Nevada to talk about the move. The endorsement comes despite differences between the gun-rights lobby and McCain on campaign finance restrictions and gun show rules. But LaPierre says the two agree on many more issues important to the group. The NRA's Political Victory Fund has spent more than $2.3 million opposing Obama.
