LIRR riders behaving badly: Readers' stories
I recently had a gentleman pick his teeth clean with a metal dental instrument from Penn Station to Floral Park. All the time spitting his findings on the floor in front of him.

Until smokers are banned from the platforms they will continue to make themselves a nuisance. Have you ever been held over at Jamaica station during the summer? Then you know the smell in the cars when all the smokers scurry to the platform and the air conditioners on the train convert hot cigarette-filled air into cold cigarette-filled air. It stinks!
- George
I've seen the typical complaints . . . But what's worse about the LIRR than the behavior of passengers is the neglect and lack of maintenance of the restroom facilities, particularly on older equipment, which in my opinion leaves the train car uninhabitable due to odor and stench!
- Michael
It is astonishing to me that so many LIRR riders see fit to leave their garbage at or under their seats on the train. I see well-dressed people, who I'm sure have neat and proper homes and offices, simply leave brown bags of refuse, or (even worse) bottles and cans half-filled with liquid, for others to pick up.
- George
Someone grabbed my ticket from the metal slot in front of my seat and scooted out the door in Jamaica. Never could happen again. I hold it now.
