Gibson Guitar CEO speaks at Kettering commencement
FLINT, Mich. - FLINT, Mich. (AP) — A businessman of note will give the commencement address at Kettering University.
Henry Juszkiewicz (jus-KAY'-vitch), CEO of Gibson Guitar Corp. in Nashville, will speak Dec. 12 to more than 200 undergraduates and about 30 graduate students at the Flint school. He also will receive an honorary doctor of management degree.
Juszkiewicz enrolled at Kettering when it was known as General Motors Institute, a five-year cooperative engineering college. He worked his way through school playing a Gibson guitar in rock bands booked for parties and weddings.
Juszkiewicz and his partners acquired Gibson in 1986, when the company was facing serious financial troubles. According to the company's Web site, Gibson became profitable within a month.
Samantha R. Best, a mechanical engineering student from Clayton, N.C., will be the undergraduate student speaker.
