There aren’t many people that would have the time or inclination to make a music video while waiting for a flight at the airport. But one man did, and the result went viral -- and got a superstar’s attention.
Richard Dunn was stranded in the Las Vegas airport and used his iPhone to shoot himself lip-synching to Celine Dion’s “All by Myself”.
The video features Dunn in different parts of the airport – an escalator, in front of the ladies’ room, and on a moving walkway.
After going viral, drawing hundreds of thousands of views, the video even drew a response from Celine Dion herself, posted to her own YouTube page yesterday.
“I have to say that the video was hilarious and very touching,” Dion said in her video message. “I loved it.”
But that wasn’t all. Dion even extended a special invitation to Dunn.
“Next time, you know, you’re stuck all by yourself at Las Vegas airport for hours and hours, please be my guest at my show,” Dion said, before giving him permission to use her bathroom.
Dion’s video already has more than 230,000 views.
In an interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Dunn said he volunteered to be bumped from two Delta flights for travel vouchers, opting for a 6 a.m. flight the following morning.
"I thought, 'Well, I don’t have enough time to go to a hotel so what do I do? I’ve got my phone and an empty movie set, let's see what trouble I can get into,'" he explained.
For some of the technically advanced shots, Dunn said he persuaded a person at the ticket counter to give him a roll of luggage tape before she left for the night.
"I then used a wheelchair that had a tall pole on the back of it and taped my iPhone to that," he wrote in a comment on his Vimeo page. Dunn achieved the moving shots by placing the chair on various moving walkways, escalators, etc., then edited it all together with Final Cut Pro.
