EDGEMONT - The family of Lauren Spierer has filed a lawsuit against three Indiana University students believed to be the last people to see their daughter alive.

Attorneys for Robert and Sharlene Spierer say they've filed a civil negligence lawsuit in an effort to get answers about their daughter’s disappearance. The 20-year-old vanished on June 3, 2011 after a night of partying at Indiana University. Spierer was allegedly very drunk and disoriented the night she vanished.

Lauren's parents say they believe the last three people to see her alive have been holding back on information about what really happened to her. The suit charges Corey Rossman, Jason Rosenbaum and Michael Beth with "negligence resulting in the disappearance, death or injury of an adult child." The suit also alleges Rossman and Rosenbaum provided alcohol to someone who was clearly intoxicated.

Spierer attorney Jason Barclay says the goal is, at the very least, to get Rossman, Rosenbaum and Beth to testify under oath in the hopes of finally getting some answers.

The state of Indiana has a two-year statute of limitations for civil filings in injury or wrongful death and the filing came just a few days before the deadline. Barclay says the three have until the end of July to respond to the suit, but it will probably be quite some time before the case goes to court.

Attorneys for the Spierers say the lawsuit was filed with great reluctance and was only filed after lawyers advised them they "would lose certain legal rights" if they didn't file before the deadline.
