Trayvon Martin killed

Trayvon Martin, 17, is fatally shot by neighborhood watch coordinator George Zimmerman in a gated community in Sanford, Fla. Martin was returning from a store and was unarmed when a confrontation erupted and he was shot in the chest from close range. Zimmerman alleged that Martin was the aggressor and was released by police without being charged. Martin's family — and supporters nationwide — called for justice in the racially charged case. Another key aspect of the case is Florida's "Stand your ground" laws, which state that a person can use deadly force — without retreating — in order to prevent death or bodily harm.
