1 killed as storms ravage mid-Atlantic
LITTLE CREEK, Del. — A wet, gusty storm that lashed the mid-Atlantic states Monday forced evacuations, flooded roads and wrecked a research vessel off the Delaware coast, killing a crew member.
Tens of thousands of customers in several states lost electricity as up to 7 inches of rain fell Sunday and Monday and wind gusts in some places reached hurricane strength.
No shelter: The Associated Press reported that more than a third of 23 people killed by a tornado in Oklahoma and Missouri over the weekend died in cars, which experts say are one of the worst places to be during a twister.
