Clinton set to debate
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) has agreed to a pair of debates against her Republican opponent, John Spencer, next month in Rochester and in Manhattan, her campaign said yesterday. The Rochester debate, sponsored by the NY1 News cable news station and to be broadcast statewide on Time Warner affiliates, will take place at 7 p.m. on Oct. 20. The Manhattan debate will be aired at 9:15 a.m. on Oct. 22 on WABC-TV. Clinton's Democratic primary opponent, Jonathan Tasini, had dogged the Clinton camp for a debate but was rebuffed. Many analysts believe that Republican Rick Lazio's poor performance in the 2000 debates against Clinton sealed her victory.
