Dig this, Mr. Secretary

WASHINGTON - New York's political odd couple are at it again.

Roiling over a drop in anti-terror funds for the city and surrounding area, the state's junior senator, Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) are sending postcards to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff featuring iconic images from around the city.

"Dear Secretary Chertoff, Just a quick note from one of New York's many national monuments and icons. Wish you were here! Hillary and Pete."

The tongue-and-cheek missive, Clinton's first substantive comments on the funding cuts more than a day after they were initially announced, mocks documents produced by the Homeland Security Department that list New York as having no national monuments and icons. Department officials say the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building and other New York landmarks were actually counted in other categories.
