Fantasy basketball notes from Friday games

BY ADAM RONIS

This is why Jermaine O'Neal slipped in drafts. He strained his left knee after a flagrant foul and left the game. He missed half the season last year because of the same knee that he had surgery on. If O'Neal misses time, it just makes Andrea Bargnani an even better pickup. He had 29 points, 10 rebounds and five three-pointers. He should be picked up now that he's starting, even if he will be inconsistent.

Tracy McGrady had 20 points, four rebounds, four three-pointers and three assists. Trade him now!!!!!

Jason Thompson had another good game with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Ramon Sessions had 15 points, 10 assists, four rebounds and three steals. He came off the bench and it was against the Knicks. He's getting enough minutes off the bench, but keep in mind Michael Redd is still out. The only hope for his minutes going up is for him to overtake Luke Ridnour as the starter.

Charlie Villanueva returned from a hamstring injury and had 20 points and six rebounds and shot 8-for-12 in just 13:28. He's still coming off the bench and played a depleted Knicks teams, so don't look into this too much. See how his minutes are distributed the next few games.

D.J. Augustin had 26 points, seven three's and seven assists. Raymond Felton had six points and five assists and could lose his starting job to Augustin, who started because Jason Richardson remains sidelined.

Rasho Nesterovic shot just 3 of 14 from the field, but he was going up against Dwight Howard. Nesterovic had six points, nine rebounds, eight assists, one steal and one block, so even with a poor shooting night, he still helped. He's playing a lot of minutes and should be owned in most leagues.

Roger Mason had 29 points, seven three's, and four rebounds.

Greg Oden came off the bench again and played 18:56. he had seven points, eight rebounds, three assists and shot 3 of 6. He had four fouls.

Russell Westbrook had 15 points on 5 of 14. He should eventually become the starting point guard at some point this season, but he will hurt your field goal percentage and turns the ball over a lot.

Al Horford returned from a sprained ankle and had four points and four rebounds.

Randy Foye got his starting job back and had four points, and one assist on 2-for-12. It came against the Celtics, so be patient.

Derrick Rose left the game late in the fourth quarter with an injury to his left side. He had 25 points and five assists. Larry Hughes started with Luol Deng out due to a hamstring injury and had 26 points, five three's, four rebounds and four assists.

Yao Ming returned and had 18 points, five rebounds and three blocks.

Mickael Piertrus returned from an injury and had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Kelenna Azubuike didn't play because of a sprained knee. The addition of Jamal Crawford hurts Azubuike.

Josh Howard didn't play because of an ankle injury.

Deron Williams hopes to return on Wednesday.

Mike D'Antoni told Stephon Marbury there were 30-35 minutes available for him to play and Marbury declined to enter the game.

Knicks make two trades

BY ADAM RONIS

The Knicks traded Jamal Crawford to the Warriors for Al Harrington and traded Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins to the Clippers for Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley. I thought Randolph was a good sell high candidate after his strong start and it's too late to get that value for him now. It will be interesting to see how things pan out with the Clippers now that Marcus Camby, Chris Kaman, Al Thornton and Randolph will all vie for minutes. Crawford should still be productive with the Warriors. Harrington should put up good numbers with the Knicks. Thomas might not see enough minutes to put up good numbers.

David Lee started at center against the Bucks tonight and had 13 points and 12 rebounds on 6 of 10 from the field. He might go back to the bench once Jared Jeffries returns from injury.

Nate Robinson had 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. It's possible he could start at shooting guard, but that would give the Knicks a very small backcourt. Even if Robinson comes off the bench, he should still be owned.

Ricky Davis could start at shooting guard now that Mobley is gone and Eric Gordon should also see more playing time.

Ginobli could return next week

BY ADAM RONIS

Fantasy owners can only hope that Manu Ginobli's words come to fruition. He said after this morning's shootaround that he should be ready to play Monday. He said there is no swelling in his ankle after practicing Thursday. It's not official when he will make his return, but this is encouraging for the Spurs and fantasy owners. For those that took a chance on him in the draft, you could be rewarded quicker than you anticipated.

Football injury news

BY ADAM RONIS

Brian Westbrook (ankle and knee) didn't practice today for the third straight day and is questionable. He has a tough matchup against the Ravens and clearly isn't healthy. Correll Buckhalter would start in his place. He's not a good play this week, but should be owned in case Westbrook misses more time.

Clinton Portis (knee) will be a game-time decision against the Seahawks. He was limited in practice today. Ladell Betts (knee) is probable.

Reggie Bush (knee) didn't practice today and is questionable for Monday against the Packers. Bush could practice tomorrow, but will be a game-time decision. Deuce McAllister (knee) practiced on a limited basis today and is probable. Pierre Thomas is playing better than him and I expect to be the better bet going forward.

Marques Colston (knee) is probable.

Plaxico Burress (hamstring) didn't practice today and is questionable.

Brandon Jacobs (knee) is probable.

Brady Quinn (broken finger) is probable after practicing all week.

Kellen Winslow Jr. (shoulder) was limited in practice today and is questionable.

Roddy White (back) practiced today and is listed as questionable.

Jerious Norwood (ribs) is listed as questionable.

Steve Slaton (chest) was limited in practice today and is probable.

So much for the three-game suspension of Matt Jones. It has yet to happen and after missing last week's game due to a thigh injury, Jones is no longer on the injury report. Just make sure you have a backup plan in case Jones' suspension occurs in your fantasy playoffs.

Josh Reed (ankle and Achilles) returned to practice and is expected to play against the Chiefs.

Marty Booker (knee) is out this week.

Jones out for the season

BY ADAM RONIS

Cowboys rookie running back Felix Jones is out for the remainder of the season with a torn ligament in his left toe and will have surgery. He was out with a hamstring injury and injured the toe during his recovery. Tashard Choice will be the backup, but expect Marion Barber to dominate the carries like last week.

Utley to have surgery

BY ADAM RONIS

Phillies second baseman Chase Utley will have surgery on his hip next week and could miss 4-6 months. It's possible he might not be ready until June. This certainly creates headaches for those that have a decision to make on Utley in keeper leagues. He played with a bad right hip in 2008 and still hit .293 with 33 home runs and 104 RBIs, although his power numbers declined in the second half. Pedro Feliz will also undergo surgery on his back and is expected to be ready for spring training.

Ocho Cinco out tonight

BY ADAM RONIS

Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson will not play against the Steelers tonight for violating team rules. Expect Chris Henry to start in his place.
