Stumping for their candidates

Readers endorse their candidates

Last week, Newsday asked readers to make the case for the candidates they'll support on Super Tuesday. Today's letters include a representation of their endorsements. On Tuesday, we'll print letters exploring the issues that readers identified as most important in this primary.

A careful and honest examination of the major issues that plague this nation - the faltering economy, out of control health care costs, terrorism and the ongoing war in Iraq - places our own government at the root of each of these problems.

The only solution is to return to a strict interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, which has been ignored for so long.

That's why we're voting for Rep. Ron Paul.

Shirley

I get teary-eyed every time I have to put gas in my car, pay my monthly heating oil bills or pay my electric bills. I actually cry when my tax bills arrive.

I was so relieved when I saw Hillary Rodham Clinton get emotional about her campaign in New Hampshire.

It is high time that somebody started to show some real emotion about the state of our country and its economy.

What this country needs is a strong woman to clean up the mess in the White House.

The kicker is that Hillary comes with a two-term ex-president in her pocket.

There is no substitute for experience.

She is well-educated, has traveled around the world, is familiar with people of all cultures and has shown that she can successfully interact with them.

She is well-versed on all the issues pertaining to the fabric of American society and has worked diligently as the senator of New York to deal with every problem imaginable.

I am confident that any decision that she has to make when it comes to the safety of our country will be handled with common sense, knowledge of the circumstances with an eye to consequences.

The public will be kept informed, there will be no secrecy, thereby keeping us feeling as comrades, which is important in today's world.

Hillary Clinton is a "uniter," not a "divider."
