Cena 2000
50 Front St. Newburgh, NY 845-561-7676
This sibling to the immensely popular Il Cenácolo, also in Newburgh, has one advantage: a wide outdoor terrace with a shellfish bar facing the river and distant Hudson Highlands. Unlike many such nautical hot spots, the service is cool under fire and maintains a brisk pace. The inside dining room, which has limited views, is tasteful and comfortable, done in shades of burnt umber with large cushioned cane chairs.
The menu is a less embellished version of Il Cenácolo’s, wandering around greater Tuscany. Typical dishes: grilled polenta with gorgonzola and sausage; grilled veal with sautéed spinach; Tuscan-style fish stew; penne with ground veal, sage and white wine. The mostly Italian wine list has choices at all price points. Be sure to reserve in advance for weekend tables. –Bryan Miller
