New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, an unabashed Red Sox fan, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch Monday at the Mets' home opener at Citi Field.

De Blasio will be joined by six children from the East Harlem Tutorial Program, some of whom were displaced from their homes by the deadly explosion of an East Harlem building earlier this month, mayoral spokeswoman Marti Adams said.

De Blasio grew up in the Boston area and has said he remains devoted to the Red Sox even though he has been a New Yorker for more than 30 years.

The game against the Washington Nationals is scheduled to start at 1:10 p.m. ---- MATTHEW CHAYES
