New York State police say a retired FDNY captain has been charged with falsely pulling fire alarms while working as fire marshal at the Aqueduct Racetrack.

Joseph Governale, of Queens, was arraigned on charges of falsely reporting an incident and criminal mischief. He was released on his own recognizance.

Governale could not be reached for comment. A phone listing for a Joseph Governale in Queens was not in service.

State police say he was arrested earlier this week after New York Racing Association alleged Governale pulled three fire alarm boxes on three separate occasions. They say the last one was in September 2013.

Authorities say Governale served four years as an NYPD officer and retired as a captain of the New York City fire department after 28 years. The 61-year-old also worked as fire marshal for the racing association from 2006 to 2013.
