At the new Greek Street in Massapequa Park, the signature dish is the sandwich dubbed the “authentic street gyro" ($8.50). Having had one on a recent visit, I now find myself thinking about when I'll get another. Last night at Ephesus, the family-run Turkish restaurant in Massapequa Park, that’s what I got. The Greek, a Massapequa Park takeout on Park Boulevard specializing in house-made gyro, has closed after a run of only a few months. Co-owner Peter Mangouranes said the eatery may reopen after the summer. There were problems, he said, with properly staffing the place.

Three of Long Island's 17 La Bottega franchises have gone independent, each changing its name but keeping most of the grill-pressed sandwiches and salads from before. On the menu, some dishes have also had name changes.

Heather West — the season 2 winner of Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen” — has bid arrivederci to Ciao Baby in Commack and Massapequa Park, where she was executive chef for over a year. She is now chef at Thatched Cottage, a catering venue in Centerport.

At The Good Life, a Massapequa Park British gastro pub, you can kick back and enjoy your good fortune with classics like fish and chips and shepherd's pie. Newsday's Joan Reminick rates the place with two stars, and says that American fusion spins on the menu, like chicken-lemongrass pot stickers, cover "a lot of territory, most of it with elan.''
