Despite its name, The Olde Pub Bar & Grill is actually quite new. It takes over the Bellmore space that last housed Lincoln Station and, before that, Clearwater Charlie’s.

General manager Stephen Dixon described the place as having an “Irish pub feel” with wood floors, some lounge couch seating and flat screen TVs, for watching the game of the moment.

What distinguishes this pub...

Say good morning to the Morning Rose Cafe, new for breakfast and lunch in Bellmore.

Owner Rose Tzanetos said she wanted her place to have a homey B&B ambience. White wainscoting, pale green walls and soft background music play into that. Although Tzanetos has chef certification from the Culinary Academy of Long Island in Syosset, the position of executive chef belongs to Roberto Baez,...

Portuguese barbecue is what’s cooking at Churrasqueira Carvalhos, which opened in the Bellmore space that last housed Cafe Symposio.

Here, meat, fish and poultry are grilled over wood charcoal and may be had as part of a rodizio-style all-you-can-eat option ($32.95 at lunch, $35.95 at dinner) featuring skewers of meat sliced to order. There are also such a la carte choices as a whole...

New Orleans cuisine: Alive and kickin' on LI

Flaky, fabulous biscuit -- big as a softball

(Credit: Newsday / Joan Reminick)

With Super Bowl XLVII fast approaching, thoughts turn to the host city of New Orleans. Having recently returned from what's arguably America's gastronomic epicenter, after days spent drifting from one super meal to the next, I've gained a renewed appreciation of how well the local Cajun and Creole cuisines are interpreted by Long Island chefs.

I compared the crusty, flaky and decidedly oversize...

Lincoln Station, Bellmore: First bites

The new Lincoln Station Bar & Grill in Bellmore seems to be off to a fairly auspicious start. The handsome tavern, with old fashioned checkered cloths and leather banquettes, offers appealing prices — especially its $16.95 prix-fixe, available Sunday to Thursday nights.

With the exception of the thick-as-paste New England clam chowder ($6.95), the food made a generally positive impression....

Lincoln Station Bar & Grill made its Bellmore debut in late October in the former digs of the short-lived Clearwater Charlie’s.

Stefan Watstein, who co-owns the restaurant and sports bar with his wife, Lori, said the place has been redecorated with leather banquettes and checkered tablecloths. It is named for Watstein's favorite president — and, also, for its location, across from the...

Zen's replaces Jen's in Bellmore for casual Chinese fare

(Credit: Newsday Photo/Joan Reminick)

Jen’s Chinese Food & Catering in Bellmore is now called Zen’s Chinese Food & Catering.

Just one of those one-letter-switched name changes? That’s what I was told when I stopped into the casual counter service spot to pick up a menu. But a follow-up call revealed that the place has also had a change of ownership and is no longer under the command of Jen Li — who, I later learned, still...

Bellcrest Deli in Bellmore: Not juicy enough

A corned beef sandwich at Bellcrest Kosher Deli

I’ve been having a tough time with corned beef lately. Is it me, or has corned beef just gotten too lean? A few months back I ordered a sandwich at Regal Deli in Plainview, requesting that it not be extra lean. What I got might not have been extra lean, but it was pretty darn lean. I learned my lesson: if I wanted a fatty sandwich I was going to have to ask for it.

So last night at Bellcrest...

Joan Reminick reviews Chicken’s Road in Bellmore, a restaurant where Venezuelan and Chinese culinary traditions come together in the service of rotisserie birds and much more.

Peter Gianotti visits Bridgehampton’s Osteria Salina, named for the Aeolian island and, intermittently, serving the food of Sicily.

Clearwater Charlie’s, the ultracasual Bellmore restaurant with the motto “Eat it and beat it,” has closed. When it opened last year, it was the source of a more than respectable lobster roll for only $10 as well as fine soft corn fish tacos, three for about $5.

A cryptic message on its website reads “ We would like to regretfully inform you that at this time Clearwater Charlie's will remain...
