Harvest on Hudson
1 River St. Hastings-on-Hudson, NY 914-478-2800
Have you ever taken the time to observe the Palisades -- no, really observe them? If not, then here is your opportunity. And what a geological marvel they are ... even better with a daiquiri in hand.
Of all of the riverside restaurants from Westchester to Columbia County, this is the winner on many counts. Housed in a vast replica of a Tuscan villa, Harvest on Hudson has a cavernous, evocative dining room with a 30-foot-high floor to ceiling stone fireplace, iron crossbeams overhead, faux marble walls, tall arched windows, and large tables set lavishly apart.
In warm weather, tables set out on a wide lawn along the river afford views from Manhattan to the Tappan Zee Bridge and beyond. From just about any table, inside or out, the vista is awe-inspiring.
The menu wanders around Italy's boot, so there is something for all tastes -- gnocchi with sage butter and porcini mushrooms, various Mediterranean-style pizzas, cavetelli with mortadella meatballs, roasted chicken with polenta and fava beans, and veal scaloppini. The mostly Italian wine list is sizable and fairly priced. Service is formal and meticulous. -Bryan MillerHours:
