Tony Award-winning actress Audra McDonald has tied the knot with fellow Broadway star Will Swenson.
According to People magazine, the couple exchanged vows Saturday night at their Croton-on-Hudson home. Among those in attendance were the couple’s children: Zoe Madeline, McDonald’s daughter from a previous marriage, and Bridger and Sawyer, Swenson’s sons with his former spouse.
McDonald took to social media to announce her good news, declaring, “Well that was just the best day ever. #SadieSadiemarriedlady” on her Twitter account.
This has been a banner year for McDonald. The longtime Westchester resident recently won her fifth Tony Award for “Porgy and Bess,” and her first-ever Tony for lead actress. Her latest win placed her in accomplished company, making her only the third person, along with Julie Harris and Angela Lansbury, to receive five Tony Awards in the acting categories.
While McDonald’s musical “Porgy and Bess” ended, its run last month, her new husband is in rehearsals for a new musical called “Murder Ballad,” which is scheduled to open off-Broadway in November.
The couple told People that they “that they look forward to their new life together as husband, wife and ‘wee posse of three.’”
