Beyonce opens up about Cuba trip, Blue Ivy on 'Good Morning America'
Spring is a busy time for Beyoncé: The pop star is currently on her “Mrs. Carter Show” world tour, serving as honorary chairwoman at tonight’s Met Gala, and voices a role in the animated film “Epic,” premiering later this month. But when she appeared on “Good Morning America” on Monday morning, the singer took the time to speak out for the first time about her recent controversial vacation to Cuba with her husband, Jay-Z.
Last month's jaunt to Cuba, which the couple embarked on to celebrate their five-year wedding anniversary — the two picked up their marriage license in Scarsdale — caused controversy because U.S. embargo laws outlaw tourist trips to the Communist island nation.
When asked about the vacation by ABC News’ Amy Robach, Beyoncé responded by praising the people she met there.
"It was such a beautiful trip,” the singer said. “I met some incredible children, visited some incredible entrepreneurs. I learned so much about so many people in the country, and it was actually quite shocking."
The star also opened up about her 1-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy.
“I would like more children,” Beyoncé said. “I think my daughter needs some company."
The star also discussed her daughter in relation to her upcoming film “Epic,” which was directed by Katonah resident Chris Wedge and also stars Yonkers native Steven Tyler. Beyoncé revealed that she when she was approached to voice the role of Queen Tara, she was pregnant at the time.
“And I thought, you know, by the time this comes out, my daughter will understand it's my voice, and what an incredible ‘cool point,’ ” the star said. “I was crying when I did the voice-over, and it was the first thing I did after giving birth. … It was a perfect first job for me.”
“Epic” comes out in theaters May 24. For more films with Hudson Valley ties, check out our summer movie guide. And if you just can’t get enough of Beyoncé, read about her role at tonight’s Met Gala, and check out a gallery of her hottest looks.
