Historic Hudson Valley tours kick off 'Path Through History'
History buffs -- rejoice! New York State is inviting residents to go back in time over the next two weekends, with Revolutionary War games, tours of historic homes, mountain hikes and other events as part of its “Path Through History” program.
Now in its second year, the state bills “Path Through History” as a “statewide roadmap that ties historically and culturally significant sites, locations and events throughout the Empire State.”
Some of the events being highlighted include tracing the footsteps of Washington Irving’s character Ichabod Crane from “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” (June 8 and 9 in Sleepy Hollow); a special audio tour of Boscobel Gardens with tales of the Hudson River Valley narrated by such luminaries as Pete Seeger and Bobby Kennedy Jr. (June 8 and 9 in Garrison); a bus tour of historic churches in Orangtown and Clarkstown; a hike along Croton Dam (June 9 in Cortlandt Manor) and a walk on the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail from Irvington to the Lyndhurst home of robber baron Jay Gould and back (June 8).
