MTV Movie Awards, 'Nurse Jackie,' 'Parts Unknown' to air Sunday
The MTV Movie Awards, the season premiere of "Nurse Jackie" and the series premiere of Anthony Bourdain's "Parts Unknown" are part of a fully loaded TV schedule with strong Hudson Valley connections this Sunday night.
Since the two series will broadcast more episodes in the weeks to come, let's start with the MTV Movie Awards. Anne Hathaway, who briefly attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, is nominated for Best Female Performance and Best Musical Moment for her Academy Award-winning work in "Les Misérables." Daniel Craig, who was married in Stone Ridge to Rachel Weisz, is up for Best Shirtless Performance (yes, really) and Best Fight for his character's epidermal and violent contributions to "Skyfall," respectively. Denzel Washington, who grew up in Mount Vernon, could win the Golden Popcorn for Best WTF Moment, thanks to the moment in "Flight" for that movie's "Final Descent" scene.
Over on Showtime, it's the return of former Purchase College student Edie Falco in the title role of "Nurse Jackie." The show picks up with Jackie's reactions to rehab and her divorce, and the emergency room staff's disdain for a new director. Falco, a multiple Emmy Award winner, has been busy on Broadway in recent weeks, performing in a production of “The Madrid” at the Manhattan Theatre Club, where the show will continue to run through April 21.
And on CNN, Bourdain's newest TV series, "Parts Unknown," premieres. An alumnus of Hyde Park's Culinary Institute of America, Bourdain treks across the globe to offer viewers his unique take on his destinations. (If you think this sounds a lot like "No Reservations," you're not alone, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.) In the premiere, he'll navigate his way through Myanmar, with future episodes whisking him off to Libya, Columbia, Peru and the Congo.
Oh, and all three of these broadcasts start at 9 p.m., on a night when "Mad Men" and "Game of Thrones" also premiere new episodes. Make sure your live-viewing and DVR priorities are in order.
